FAQ
Does my XML leave the browser? Formatting and validation run locally. A URL in the input box is the exception: the browser requests that address directly, and the remote host can refuse the request.
Why did a URL fail? Most sites omit the CORS headers a browser page needs. Save the file and drop it in, or paste the document instead.
What does Fix XML change? It closes unclosed tags, drops stray closing tags and duplicate attributes, quotes unquoted attribute values, and escapes a bare < or &. If the document does not have exactly one root, the pieces are wrapped in <document>. An undeclared namespace prefix is reported and left in place.
Does this check my schema? No. The tool checks that the document is well-formed XML, including namespace prefixes. A DTD or XSD is not applied, so a document can be accepted here and still fail schema validation elsewhere.
Will formatting change my data? Line breaks are added between elements. Text nodes, CDATA sections, and the contents of an element with xml:space="preserve" are not rewritten, aside from repairs you opted into.
